The Chevrolet El Camino is a coupe pickup that was produced from 1959 to 1960, then from 1964 to 1987. The original model was in response to the success of the Ford Ranchero pickup. Once production resumed in 1964, the new generation was based on the Chevelle platform. The final model years from 1978 to 1987 was based on the GM G-body platform.
