The heavy-duty Chevrolet Silverado full-size pickups were introduced in 1999 and are currently still in production. General Motors produces the Silverado and its cousin, the GMC Sierra. Chevrolet retained the use of the truck weight designations from the previous C/K model; ‘1500' (1/2 ton), ‘2500’ (3/4-ton) and ‘3500’ (1-ton). The first generation of the Silverado ran from 1999 to 2007 and was based on the GMT800 platform. The second generation Silverado ran from 2007 to 2013 and was based on the GMT900 platform. It featured a redesigned interior, exterior, suspension, frame and engine upgrades. The third generation was introduced in 2014 and is still currently in production.
